Cherry Blossom festival

We enjoyed an afternoon in DC at the cherry blosson festival. We met up with Amanda, Charlie and baby william, it was a little chilly but lovely to see and to catch up with some friends. On the way back stopped off at the Zoo to see the lions and then for a bite to eat at Spicies.

4th Anniverary

Thanks to Michelle's mum Francis we remembered our 4th Wedding Anniversary this year. We've been a bit busy so I guess the date just slipped up on us. A quick scramble on my part and we were booked in to a very nice brunch at the Kennedy Center Roof Terrace Restaurant. We paused for a few photos on the terrace and caught the President flying by in Marine 1 - the Presidential Helicopter. Afterwards we went down to the mall and toured the Botanical Conservatory. In all, a great recovery (we may have missed the day entirely!)...I've added a photo from the big day back in 2005 (on the beach in Ventura California).

Washington Monument

Before leaving on her trip Michelle booked tickets for us to go up in the Washington Monument - great views of the Mall (and the White House) - everyone should see DC and when they get here...take a ride to the top of this big stone tower thing.

Mount Vernon

We had a nice day out at George Washington's Plantation "Mt Vernon." Michelle packed a lunch and we loaded up the little man. He didn't seem to mind (slept most of the day). We bought year-long passes last year and it's payed off - much to see on George's property. We usually avoid the lines for the house tour and wander around the gardens and farm. On this trip I spotted an Osprey with a freshly caught fish (right talon). (Thanks to Deggz for the Birds of Prey Recce from the other side of the planet!)

Abe

Abe is all the rage in DC these days - from the Emancipation Proclamation to the White House I guess there's a bit of symbolism there.

Our first family trip into DC

We went down to see the Cherry Blossoms in bloom today. Big crowds but very beautiful. Dylan seemed to enjoy the fresh air - although he slept through most of it.
