Wreck Diving in Key Largo

The hurricane pushed us off course and after a few days in Key West we drove up to Key Largo for a wreck dive with Horizon Divers. We dove on the "USS Spiegel Grove" a old Navy LSD (Landing Ship). It was a great dive - the briefing from Capt Rob was a serious intro to wreck diving for me - strong currents at the surface and below - miss the guide line on the entry and the current would sweep you away. On decent the hunking mass of the Spiegel Grove emerged out of the deep - kinda spooky.

Once we got onto the wreck the current wasn't an issue and we could explore a bit - it was sunk as a dive site so the penetrations into the superstructure were very easy - just had to dodge a 5 foot Jew-fish on the way in.

For my first wreck dive (and probably Michelle's 100th) it was awesome - I want more!
